CANCELLED Provocations & Conversations | Remembering Forgetting
Host Evelyn Roe

I have recently written a piece called "Yarn of Remembering"- a string of works which tie together my fieldwork experiences as an ethnobotanist in Zambia and the Highlands of Scotland. Alongside impressions of the memory traces I have followed, there are hollows which I have not attended to. Each one feels like a present emptiness where something went before. I cannot describe or locate them, but - for now - I am calling them impressions of forgetting, and I wonder, do our forgotten memories form the shape of our lives? Session Host: Evelyn Roe writes to explore the experience of remembering as a living bridge weaving threads of connection across divides of time, culture, and ways of knowing. She draws attention to remembering as an experience in and of the present moment, asking what is lost as the researcher moves from fieldwork to findings, as experiencing is replaced with reporting, and what can the gap between fieldwork and findings afford the researcher? In crafting her reflexive narrative, Evelyn's mode of inquiry is barefoot wayfaring, moving on a journey with creative responsiveness, creating a new path along the way.
